Tricks That Remove The Pain from Learning Spanish

By Melissa Osborne

Learning Spanish is something you can definitely do, even if it's the first time you've ever tried to learn a foreign language. Learning languages seems like a daunting task but everybody is capable of doing it. In today's global culture, there are so many benefits to being multilingual. Knowing more than one language can really help if you do any traveling. It could also help you better communicate with the people you meet in your own community. For people who are planning to learn another language for the first time, Spanish is a wise choice for several reasons. By following some guidelines, you can shorten your learning curve when it comes to speaking Spanish.

Keep in mind to have some patience. You won't be speaking Spanish fluently in several days. Even if you had all the vocabulary and verbs remembered, your sentence structure may need a little work. You will only slow your progress if you put a lot of pressure on your self to get fluent fast. Instead let yourself learn slowly. This allows you to feel more relaxed with Spanish. Other people will demonstrate more patience with you if they know you're still learning. You need to be careful so you don't offend anyone.

You should hire a tutor. No question, CDs and books can be very good. But a tutor can answer questions that often times a CD/book cannot. There's nothing wrong with a CD, or book. However a tutor can provide the kind of help you may not receive from a book/CD. Of course, it's necessary for a language tutor to have fluency in the language they are teaching. They can teach you about the different dialects within the language you are learning.

You'll get nowhere fast if you put a lot of pressure on yourself to speak fluently in too short a time. Rather, just learn at a natural pace. This allows you to feel more relaxed with Spanish. Another good reason to go slowly is that people are far more patient when they know the person speaking to them is still learning the language. If you try to learn too fast and become over-confident, you run the risk of accidentally offending a person in a conversation if you make a mistake. Go online! You'll find the net is loaded with help for learning Spanish. And here is a really cool site: Babelfish, and it's used for translation. Just type in your sentence or word, and it will translate into Spanish. You'll find this very useful because you can take any sentence, translate it, and then you can learn it in Spanish. But just keep in mind that English and Spanish sentence structures are different from each other. So the translation tool will show you exactly how the structure changes from English to Spanish. If you want, you can search online and find other language tools to help you with Spanish.

A good technique is to actually have the Spanish names for everything in front of you; you can use tags or stickers with the words written on them. Do this in as many spaces as you can, whether at home, work or even in your vehicle. This is a way you can immerse yourself in Spanish vocabulary by seeing the words and what objects they go with. Nothing is more embarrassing than using one word when you meant to use another! When you don't know what you're saying, you can end up confusing similar sounding words that mean very different things. If you label your home and office you'll be able to practice learning your new language in a comfortable environment which, depending on your learning style, could speed up your learning process.

You might also find that people in these neighborhoods are happy to help new speakers learn how to properly communicate. You'll get practice using your new language the way it is meant to be spoken without having to travel far to do so!

Learning Spanish or any new language does not have to be so painful. Just starting out is the toughest part, but it will get much better in time. Just keep working at it and trying new tips and tricks to help yourself and before long you'll be fluent!
